May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art – write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. May your coming year be a wonderful thing in which you dream both dangerously and outrageously.

I hope you will make something that didn’t exist before you made it, that you will be loved and you will be liked and you will have people to love and to like in return. And most importantly, because I think there should be more kindness and more wisdom in the world right now – I hope that you will, when you need to, be wise and that you will always be kind. And I hope that somewhere in the next year you surprise yourself.

"Wrapping presents wisely"

On Christmas morning, we usually have a small mountain of wrapping paper that ends up in the garbage instead of the recycling bin.But you don’t have to give up wonderful Christmas traditions of the beautifully-wrapped presents under the tree. With some creativity you can be environmentally friendly and have those presents. Your presents may be prettier than they’ve ever been.

Greener alternatives
Instead of using traditional wrapping paper, use pre-existing items from around your home. Try wrapping gifts with pages from fashion catalogues, fancy Christmas advertisements, newspaper cartoon strips, old calendars, left-over wallpaper and children’s art. You can also cut up parts of old holiday cards you’ve received to make tags for the presents.

Bags vs. paper
Putting gifts in colourful bags is more environmentally friendly than wrapping them with paper -- plus it’s way easier! Bags are usually recyclable and definitely reusable. They can be used for many holiday seasons.

Wrapping a gift with a gift
Try wrapping presents with scarves, aprons, placemats, and towels. You can often find all of these items with colourful holiday prints on them. Any of these items could be used to wrap a gift.

No wrapping required
Probably the easiest way around wrapping is to give a gift that doesn't need to be wrapped. Concert tickets or gifts cards can all be placed under the tree in a lovely envelope saving you the trouble of wrapping.

No demasiado largo pero tortuoso a veces.

Ya estoy en el camino del blog, porque esto no acaba nunca y lo cierto es que es tremendamente adictivo. Aunque a partir de ahora me lo tomaré con más calma. Eso sí, procuraré no perder los apuntes del taller porque mientras el tutor resuelve las dudas todo funciona. Luego, ya veremos.

En cualquier caso, lo más importante es que ya tengo un “tablón”. El resto es intentar saquear a los compañeros, los amigos, los alumnos y cualquiera que se preste para que no quede ni un hueco y siempre haya algo que leer, mirar o escuchar. Procuraré que sea medianamente interesante, no como este pensamiento en voz alta…

¿Por qué un blog?

Mi intención, sin lugar a dudas, es aprender lo suficiente de este tinglado, que diría Alejandro, como para estar a la altura (o mejor, a media altura) de mis alumnos. Seguro que ellos irán siempre por delante pero intentaré que no se note demasiado.
Ahora que ya voy comprendiendo en qué consiste todo ésto, lo veo más claro.
Me gusta la idea del blog porque me recuerda al mensaje en la botella que se lanza al mar.
Viene a ser lo mismo. No es más que un mensaje lanzado al cyberespacio, a ver quién lo recibe, quién lo lee, quien contesta...
Claro que tenemos la ventaja de "pedirles educadamente" a nuestros alumnos y compañeros que lo visiten. Seguro que ellos juzgarán.

Me dedico a la enseñanza

Sí, me dedico a la enseñanza. Soy profesora, no maestra. Probablemente la palabra maestra me viene grande. Con adolescentes ya no se es maestro, más bien se es guía, orientador o qué sé yo...
Me gusta la enseñanza, no sé si fue una elección personal o una tendencia familiar que me viene desde un bisabuelo.
Pienso en la escuela de mi bisabuelo, en un pueblo de Ávila al que llegó destinado. Quizá las cosas no han cambiado tanto en este sentido y la figura del "profesor errante" se ha convertido en una pega endémica de la profesión.
La imagen que he elegido nos muestra el lugar del maestro en la escuela antigua. Digo el lugar y no las herramientas porque lo que vemos no nos habla sino de un papel a desempeñar; un papel incuestionable.
Han cambiado las aulas, han cambiado las herramientas y hemos cambiado los profesores. Nos hemos convertido en guías del conocimiento, en medios que nuestros alumnos "utilizan" para aprender. Y eso me convence más.

De ser el Espasa hemos pasado a ser Google.
Pensando en el maestro que fue mi bisabuelo y en la profesora que soy yo, se me viene a la cabeza un poema de Khalil Gibran sobre los hijos que, como madre, siempre intento tener presente.

Para los compañeros que podrían compartir conmigo esta reflexión, imagino el poema dedicado a los alumnos...

Tus hijos no son tus hijos,
son hijos e hijas de la vida,
deseosa de sí misma.

No vienen de ti,
sino a través de ti,
y aunque estén contigo,
no te pertenecen.

Puedes darles tu amor,
